What will Men’s fashion offer in 2012? Let’s take a look at what trends will revive themselves this year.
A Denim Revival
Denim has never been ‘out’ but it’s back and evolving. Rips, Tears, Frays, Fades and Abrasions will seemingly be fewer and subtler and instead cleaner denim in strong colours is making a revival. Premiere Vision announced a new attendance record at the Paris “Denim” Show with attendance up by 18%. This is backed by a rise of the middle class in India and China who’s younger and well-off are now finding jeans more appealing.
Relaxed Tailoring
2011 was about skinny fit clothing. This won’t go away, nor is it out, but relaxed fit is back. Loose fit of years gone by meant loose layering and drop crotches but 2012 will bring a different style and one which relies on tailored clothing, somewhere in-between street and formal; relaxed fit styles to look out for include Loose Pants, Seamless Shoulders, Pleated Pants and Loose Cut Jackets.
Bold Colours
A declining economy and (potentially) impending recession will see a return to brightly coloured clothing as we try and get away from the doom and gloom of the economy and remind ourselves of happier times. Keep an eye out on clothing which we once wore as an accents becoming the focus, we’re talking green, orange, purple and mustard (yellow) to name but a few.
For those who aren’t quite ready to go head-to-head with bold pieces try experimenting by adding brighter pieces to your wardrobe such as belts, braces and scarves. For the really conservative a bold pair of socks can look great with your suit, just ask Peter Jones from Dragon’s Den.
(Not Quite) White
We don’t mean the bright white which seems to have revived itself as the impossible to keep clean colour of all cars post 2010; but off-whites, dirty and bone to compliment your brilliant white car and can’s.
Yellow
If Paris and Milan were anything to go by this year then get your going to need some dark sunglasses ready for a yellow summer. For the bright and bold a yellow suit might be the way, but for the less risqué amongst us try some yellow corduroy trousers or shorts.
Whatever your fashion tips and trends are for 2012 it seems that colour is making a revival which men no longer need to be afraid of.
